MEN’S SLOW PITCH AND CO-REC SLOW PITCH
39
th ANNUAL
RICHMOND ROUND-ROBIN
MAY 24 – 26,
2008
TOURNAMENT RULES
As it requires eight
teams to form a complete bracket, teams are urged to enter as early
as possible to insure a spot in this year’s tournament. We
plan to place teams as they enter and assign them to the best fields
available for the respective classification. This will help the
teams arrange lodging at hotels and motels near the fields where they
will be playing. Information on hotels and motels will be sent to
entering teams as soon as we can place them in a bracket. Please
enter your team at this time and help us plan a better tournament for
you. The entry fee is $375.00. NOTE: team managers who enter their
team by May 1 will receive a tournament souvenir t-shirt.
CLASSIFICATIONS:
There are five separate men’s slow pitch classifications
and five co-rec slow pitch classifications. Teams will be divided
into eight team brackets with each playing the other seven teams on
Saturday and Sunday with all teams advancing to the playoffs.
Bracket winners and runner-ups advance directly to the championship
finals and the other teams compete in a wildcard playoff for
additional spots in the finals. No team is eliminated from the
tournament unless it loses its last game in the playoffs. There
will be a separate championship playoff for each classification.
Playoffs will begin Sunday and conclude on Memorial Day.
PLAYING RULES: All
playing rules of the A.S.A. as printed in the current year’s
A.S.A. Rule Book will be used with the exception of those listed
below.
METAL SPIKES:
Some of the field owners prohibit the use of metal spikes; therefore,
it is recommended that all players have shoes available that do not
have metal spikes.
NO LIMIT HOME RUN
RULE: Home runs do not win games, runs do. Also, once teams
reach the home run limits, the risk of injury to the pitcher and
infielder increases. Therefore, we are allowing the teams to hit
unlimited home runs, classifying teams according to the number of
runs they score. In Class E, over-the-fence fair balls will be a
ground-rule single, in all other classifications an over-the-fence
fair ball will be a home run.
Run Rule: A –
Unlimited Runs
B - 25 Run Limit
C – 20 Run
Limit
D – 15 Run
Limit
E – 15 Run
Limit
Note: Using this rule
we are encouraging teams to be honest and play in their proper
classification so the competition is fair for all teams. Playing in
the right classification should not affect your team, it should only
protect it from sandbagging teams.
RUN AHEAD RULE:
After five complete innings, fifteen runs in Classes A &
B and ten runs in Classes C, D & E.
THREE-TWO COUNT AND
WHIFF RULE: Three balls will be a walk and two strikes will be a
strikeout. The second foul on the second strike will also be
a strikeout. Also, a batter who swings and misses a pitch shall be
declared out by the whiff rule.
UNSPORTSMANLIKE
CONDUCT: Umpires may assess a penalty of one out against a
player or team guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct. This may result in
a team having two outs in an inning if the penalty is on the batting
team or an extra out in an inning if the penalty is on the team in
the field.
SPECIAL RAIN RULE:
If rain stops the game in progress and it cannot be resumed at
the field within one hour of stopping time, five innings will
constitute a complete game; otherwise, game to be replayed in its
entirety.
REFUNDS: A team
which withdraws prior to the preparation of the schedules will be
refunded 80% of its entry fee. A team which withdraws after the
schedules have been prepared will be refunded 60% of its entry fee IF
a replacement teams can be found. No refund for any reason will be
made after the schedules have been prepared UNLESS a
replacement team is found.
POSTPONEMENT: If
rain prevents completion of the tournament as scheduled, the
tournament director will determine how to complete the tournament,
such as reducing finals to single-elimination or postponing the
competition to a later date.
