Central Virginia A.S.A. Hall of Fame

The Central Virginia A.S.A. Hall of Fame was formed in 1974 by Frank Taylor, the Central Virginia ASA commissioner at that time, and two former fast pitch greats, Polly  Russell and Russell “Legs” Bolling.   The first banquet was held in Richmond on  April 20, 1974, at Monument Heights Baptist Church.   The initial inductees were: Evelyn “Tommie” Adams, Russell “Legs” Bolling, Bill Covington, Haskell Jackson, O. W. Mallory, Gillie Poh, Norma Loving Seig and Alma Snellings Talley.   The continuation of the Hall of Fame over the last thirty-five years has relied on its many dedicated committee members.   Some of the leaders of the committee include:  Polly Russell, Phil Calvo, Herman Clarke, Bob Davis, Harvey Hinson and Don Clatterbaugh.   To date the Central Virginia A.S.A. Hall of Fame has inducted 248 players, sponsors, umpires, and organizers.  Several of our local inductees have also been inducted into the National Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame located in Oklahoma City.  Frank Taylor was inducted in 1991 as a commissioner, Henry Pollard in 1992 as an umpire, Don Clatterbaugh in 2001 as a  player,  Brenda Smith-Foster in 2007 as a player, and R. B. Thomas in 2009 as a sponsor.
